I hate phone calls!
Mar 18, 2024I JUST HATE PHONE CALLS
In the last two days I've worked with two separate clients and they both hate making phone calls.
When exploring the discomfort of his phone experiences, I asked Client A if he ever called his mom. "No, I just see her around town. Do you text instead? I asked. "Nope!" This client is fundraising for a new building and I believe that he'll get more connections by adding phone calls to prospective donors into the mix.
Today, I had a meeting with another client. It was our kickoff meeting, and I'm coaching and providing a strategy to raise nearly $600,000 by the end of May. As we were working on strategies and setting some to-dos and deadlines, I suggested phone calls (they have an older donor base for the most part). "Can't I just send an email first?" she asked. I said, "No hiding behind emails! You know most of these people well." Since they have already used a mix of emails and letters for initial outreach, I think she'll have the most success - especially on the limited timeline - by making the next moves by phone.
If you dislike the phone but know it is an important tool in the fundraising toolbox, I'd like to help you!
I've created a short survey here to understand how you use the phone in fundraising currently, and the type of support you enjoy. I'd be delighted if you took a few minutes to complete!
